Run Forrest!

In mid-March SPF youth wrote down a time they remembered keeping their "eye on the ball," or rather, keeping focused on a specific goal. They they wrote about the most loving sacrificial things anyone has ever done for them. Briefly we discussed these two entries sharing our thoughts on both. Then we watched two movie clips from Forrest Gump.

The first clip showed Forrest running into the battle, regardless of the bombing and shooting going on, to look for his wounded friend, Bubba, and pull him to safety. Forrest carries and saves several of his fallen comrades before finding Bubba and pulling him out of harm's way. Then we discussed Jesus as making the ultimate sacrafice for us, what he did to save us. John 15:13 was our scripture guide. Is it in our nature to sacrifice for others? What can you do today that would be considered a sacrafice for other people?

The second clip is just after that when Forrest learns to play ping-pong while recovering from a shot "in the buttocks." Forrest's uncanny focus on the ball makes him a master player. Focus is what it boils down to in our walk with Jesus. If he simply have committment and faith, our walk can overcome the many distractions that pull us away from Him. Our scripture passages were Proverbs 4: 25-27 and Proverbs 16:3. What distractions do you need to eliminate in order to stay focused on your relationship with Christ?
